Week 1 - Bio
Last year my life came full circle. I was born in Salem, OR but we moved when I was just a couple of years old. I was raised in Spokane, WA, a place I will always consider my home. But last Summer the opportunity came to move back here to Salem, back to the place I was born. So I like to say that I've come full circle in life. I've come back to the place I began.
I grew up in a large family and was the middle child. For the most part having lots of siblings was fun. There was always something exciting going on. When my parents finally decided we were old enough to stay home alone for a couple hours at a time we let our imaginations run wild. I remember one day dragging out a mattress off of one of our beds and placing it onto the top of the stairs. All of us kids sat on it and slid down the stairs laughing and yelling the whole way!
After high school I attended a few different universities but ended up graduating from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor of arts degree in English. I had thought at that time that I might like to teach at the college level but ultimately decided that wasn't the way I wanted to go. Instead I resolved to not do any more schooling until I was positive of what I wanted to study. I had enjoyed English, but didn't want to continue in that subject area. It seems like I had been warned that the longer you're out of school the harder it is to go back, and it's true. But now, a few years later, I have found my way back to school to study in an area that I'm 100% confident is what I want to do.
My goal is to teach at the Early Childhood/Elementary level, specifically Special Education. I have always enjoyed working with kids with developmental disabilities and feel like I can have a positive impact in their lives while they are in school.
I enjoy doing almost anything outdoors. I like to go hiking, camping, boating and playing sports. I also enjoy reading and being with family and friends.
